What's a Favorite Scrapbook All About?
What's your favorite thing in the whole wide world? Make a scrapbook about it! A memory book of this type is really all about you. As scrappers, we spend a lot of time creating layouts that are about other people, even if we do share the memories. Creating a favorite scrapbook is a way to spend time pleasing yourself for a change. Go ahead and indulge.
How to Make a Scrapbook of Your Favorite Things
Before you can make a favorite scrapbook, you'll need to decide if you want to focus on a single topic or design a multi-topic album.
Single Topic
A favorite scrapbook can center on one main topic, with individual layouts to cover different aspects of your theme. Let's use a "favorite vacation" as an example.
- Begin with a layout dedicated to planning your trip. Include an actual travel brochure in its own pocket, a photo of the travel agency and some journaling about how you chose your destination.
- Include a layout of getting ready for the trip. This might include shopping, packing your bags or anything else that's relevant.
- Capture memories about the journey itself. You're bound to come across interesting people and places en route to your destination.
- The heart of your album will be your experiences once you reach your destination. Devote plenty of space for photos of the scenery, places you visit and activities you take part in. Journaling will also be a very important aspect of this portion of your scrapbook. Be sure to include any special moments, souvenirs or mementos.
- Be sure to include a final layout to tie the threads of the book together. This is a nice place to include your feelings about the entire journey, what you might have done differently and perhaps a hint about your next dream vacation.
Multi-Topic
You might choose to take a different approach with your favorite scrapbook and dedicate each page or two-page layout to a different type of favorite. A memory book like this really says a lot about who you are as a person. Imagine what a treasure it could be for generations to come.
You could include layouts about your favorite:
- Friends: Whether you have one best friend or group of chums you like to spend time with, it's nice to capture some of these memories for your favorite scrapbook. Include individual or group photos. Journal something interesting about each person or something you've done together. You might even like to tell about your first impression at your initial meeting and what you really think about your friend now.
- Restaurant: Do you have a favorite spot you like to go with friends or your special someone? Bring your camera and ask your waiter or another guest to take a picture of you together at your table. You could also include a photo of the menu and your favorite dish when it is presented.
- Recipe: Include the recipe itself, a photo of the finished dish and perhaps some special enjoying it. Don't forget to add a little journaling to tell how you came across the recipe.
- Automobile: This could be a layout dedicated to the favorite car you've ever owned or it could be about your dream car. Include an image of the auto, and do a little journaling about the vehicle's features and capabilities. This would also be a great way to feature a favorite classic car, especially if you're into auto shows.
- Musical band: This could be a really fun layout. Include a group shot and use the band's name for your banner. Include stats on each band member, and perhaps some of the lyrics from one of your favorite songs.
- Television show: Maybe you're a Seinfeld fan or you're really into Lost. Include images of your favorite characters and write about what makes them tick. Do you have a favorite episode or story line? Journal about that too. You can scan images from magazines or write the studio to ask for a fan publicity photo.
- Actor/Actress: This falls along the same lines as a television show. You'll want to include a head shot image, statistics about the star and maybe a log of career roles and highlights.
- Birthday: Include photos of friends and family gathered to celebrate, the cake and the birthday boy or girl.
- Anniversary: Every anniversary is special, but perhaps you'd like to do a layout of one of the milestones like a 25th or 50th anniversary.
- Holiday: What's your favorite holiday? Does one year stand out from the rest? Gather a few photos and get ready to do some journaling about the day.
- Hobby: This layout may have to be about your second favorite hobby unless you can get a friend to take a few candid shots of you as you work on one of your scrapbooks.
- Sport: Are you an avid golfer? Take some pictures while you're out on the links. Do you love to watch a particular sport? Include images scanned from Sports Illustrated and stats about your favorite players.
- Sport Team: Here's your chance to show some team spirit. Create a banner using the team's name. Try to include some great action shots, especially if you can attend the game in person. Don't forget to include images of yourself and other sports fans in action in the stands. It's all part of the fun.
