Why purchase all of your scrapbooking supplies when free scrapbook templates are as close as your fingertips? LoveToKnow Scrapbooking shows you where to get them, plus tips on how to use them.
Scrapbooking with Templates
Anyone involved in scrapbooking realizes that the cost of this hobby can quickly add up. Quite often you wind up with odds-and-ends from project kits, plus leftover cardstock and scrapbooking paper. Creative croppers look for ways to save money and convert leftovers into useable items. Using free templates is a nice way to achieve both goals.
Downloadable templates are outlines of shapes that can be copied onto any material you can safely run through your printer. However, it's best to use acid and lignen-free products in order to preserve your layouts. Templates come in many shapes and sizes, so it's possible to add them to your layouts in a number of ways. You can use them to frame photos, provide a space for journaling or as a base beneath other embellishments. There is almost no limit to what you can do with them.

Tips for Using Templates
- Add more than one template to a page to maximize use of your paper or cardstock.
- Adjust the size of a template to create exactly what you need, or prepare pieces for layering. When downloading with Adobe Reader, use Adobe Illustrator.
- To avoid print lines, print your template on the backside of your page.
- Adjust your printer ink to "fast" or "economy" mode to create lighter outlines, especially on lightweight paper, transparencies and vellum.
- Cut out templates with decorative scissors to further customize them.
- Try using paper punches on your cutouts to add extra interest.
