Scrapbook Book Club
From LoveToKnow Scrapbooking
With new scrapbooking idea books published on a monthly basis, it should come as no surprise that there are scrapbook book clubs catering to the needs of savvy crafters.
Finding a Scrapbook Book Club
Joining a book club for scrapbookers offers many benefits. Seeing the work of other scrapbookers can help you develop your own design style. Joining a book club is also a great way to challenge yourself to learn more about the latest crafting techniques, since the club’s selections are not necessarily books you would have chosen on your own.
Before you join a scrapbook book club, however, take the time to think about what you hope to gain from the experience. Do you want the opportunity to purchase new books at a discount? Are you only interested in books about scrapbooking or do you enjoy other types of crafts as well? Would you like a chance to discuss scrapbooking techniques with other crafters?
The ScrapBook Club
The ScrapBook Club is a book club designed to meet the needs of both beginning and experienced scrapbookers. The club offers a variety of books on topics such as paper punch art, journaling, photography, and scrapbooking theme albums. Every four weeks, members have an opportunity to purchase a “Pick of the Crop” selection. However, there’s no minimum number of books to buy and free shipping and handling is offered on all purchases.
Members receive a free bulletin providing information on the club’s book selections, the chance to enter various scrapbooking contests, discounts on scrapbooking tools and supplies, and an opportunity to receive free books for referring friends to the club. Most books in this scrapbook book club are offered at 50-85% off regular retail prices. However, since The ScrapBook Club is owned by the publishers of Memory Makers magazine, the selection tends to favor the Memory Makers line of idea books.
Crafter’s Choice
Crafter’s Choice is similar to The ScrapBook Club, but offers discounts on books covering many different crafts. There are over 800 titles available, including a number of new releases. The selection includes scrapbooking books, as well as books on painting, woodworking, knitting, quilting, cross stitch, and jewelry making.
As a member of the Crafter’s Choice book club, you’ll be able to purchase books for up to 30% off regular retail prices. When you first join the club, you’ll have a chance to purchase four books of your choice for only $1 each. You’ll also earn bonus points for each purchase that can be redeemed for additional savings.
If you are interested in a number of different crafts, joining Crafter’s Choice can be a great way to build an extensive home reference library. However, you will be required to purchase a minimum of two books per year to maintain your membership.
Pinecone Press
Pinecone Press, a publisher of numerous scrapbooking idea books, has created a book club that offers scrapbookers the chance to discuss the last design techniques with their fellow crafters. The club is often referred to as Not Your Ordinary Book Club, or NYOBC. This book club may be the right choice for you if you’re interested in meeting other scrapbookers while taking your crafting skills to the next level.
Not Your Ordinary Book Club members purchase the month’s selected book at their local scrapbook store, then meet to discuss what they’ve learned and share the layouts they’ve completed using the materials provided in the monthly supply kit. Pinecone Press also publishes a study guide that book club members can use to prepare for their monthly meetings. In addition, the company website contains a message board that lets book club participants share their ideas and post layouts.
If you are interested in participating in the Pinecone Press book club, check the company’s website to find a location near you or contact your local scrapbook store to ask if they would considering sponsoring a book club chapter.

Joe,
What a sweet husband you are! I absolutely love my Cricut and I'm sure your wife would be thrilled to have one as a Christmas present. Check out our article on Discount Cricut Machines for more information.
You can buy a Cricut from Hobby Lobby or most of the larger Wal-Mart stores. There are two different versions of the Cricut, but the smaller one that retails for about $180 is sufficient for most general scrapbooking needs. The basic cartridge that comes with the machine is enough to get her started making pages, but you may also want to give her a gift card to her favorite store so she can pick out a second cartridge once she gets the hang of things.
If your wife is into home decor, Cricut also makes vinyl that can be cut into whatever shape you want to make decals for your walls. I've done a quote in my office, stars in my son's room, and a floral border in my bedroom. It's easy and fun!
Good luck!

My wife has been doing scrapbooking as a hobby for about 5 years. Sheâs probably an intermediate-level. She makes all of our Christmas and other-occasion greeting cards, etc. She really enjoys it, and sheâs very, very creative, but she does everything manually.
I came across some ads for machines such as a Cricut or Wishblade, and I think that one of these might make a good Christmas present for her. But I know absolutely nothing about these things. Their websites are full of information, but of course itâs all self-serving â their interest is in making a sale!!
So I was wondering if you or any of your club members might be willing to share your opinions and insights with me about the good and bad points of these machines, which would be the best âstarter setâ to buy, etc. etc.
I would GREATLY appreciate any help you might be able to offer. Just send to jnavarro18@comcast.net.
And many thanks in advance!!!
